Vince Taylor
TAYLOR, Vincent (Vince) Francis, BSc(Eng) BE MIEAust (1922-1999)
The second youngest son of Robert Taylor of Liverpool UK and Mary Catherine Swarbrick, Vince was born in Jolimont, Perth, on October 3, 1922. He was educated at Kurrawang State School and Christian Brothers College Kalgoorlie. Vince passed the Leaving Certificate in 1940 with 7 subjects including 6 Distinctions and was awarded a Government Mathematics Exhibition.
He initially completed a three year Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree at the University of Western Australia in 1943 (as was the case for engineering courses during WWII) and a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1946.
Following graduation Vince joined the Public Works Department and was appointed Engineer 2nd Class as of 1 January 1948. By 1949 Vince was posted to Northam and then to Collie. He then took up the revived role of District Engineer Merredin in 1954 followed by youngest (at that time) appointment as District Engineer Northam. In 1963 Vince became Principal Assistant, Engineer Country Water Supplies. Between 1968 and his retirement in 1975 he was Engineer in Charge of all Government Country Water Supplies in Western Australia.
In 1960 Vince married Anne Marguerite Ollenbach of Northam. They lived in Wembley Downs. Vince's recreational interests included gardening, oil painting and horse racing. He was a member of the WA Golf Club (Mt Yokine), the Celtic Club and the WA Turf Club.
