Limestone Mining in Tasmania

Limestone was an important component of cement. In 1926 mining commenced of a large limestone deposit and a cement works was established nearby. Most of the output was railed to Devonport for shipping to the mainland. The output from mines around Roland was used for a period in BHP’s blast furnaces.
