Engineers Australia (EA) is the trading name for the Institution of Engineers, Australia. The Institution of Engineers, Australia is the national body that was established in 1919, incorporated in 1926 and granted a Royal Charter in 1938. The purpose of Engineers Australia is to advance the science and practice of engineering for the benefit of the community and to promote the interests of professional engineers, technologists and engineering associates. EA's website can be accessed at engineersaustralia.org.au.

History of Engineers Australia

In 1969 The Institution of Engineers Australia published a book by Arthur Corbett titled A History of the First Fifty Years 1919-1969. This book is available in some university and state libraries (refer Trove at https://trove.nla.gov.au/work/21655768 for locations).

During formation of the Institution in 1919, special rules applied during the period of the first Council which expired on 31 December 1920. A copy of these rules including membership of First Council and a member application form is available here (3.4 MB).

Engineers Australia Membership

The first and subsequent volumes of Transactions included the names of those who had joined during the year. The first membership list with 2,512 names was published in 1924. The second list titled a Statement of Membership and List of Members as at 30th September, 1927 has been scanned and is available here (138 MB). A compressed version is available here (35 MB).

Plans for a list at the end of 1929 were abandoned with the next list published in 1937. Further editions were published in 1947, 1955, 1961 and 1965. More information on membership lists is available in the book by Arthur Corbett titled A History of the First Fifty Years 1919-1969, page 124.
