Tim Humphry
HUMPHRY, Timothy Richard (Tim), BE(Hons) FIEAust FAICD (1948-2022)
Tim was born in Mansfield, Nottingham, England on April 4, 1948, with his twin brother Chris, the sons of optician Oscar Farkasch Humphry and his wife Jessica Raynor Humphry, nee Critchley.
The family first came to Australia on the “Orion” arriving on April 16, 1951, in Fremantle. They returned to England and migrated to Australia arriving in November 1956, on the “Fairsea”.
Tim was educated at Hale School from 1961 to 1965. In 1966 he enrolled in First Year Engineering at the University of Western Australia, completing a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in 1970.
Tim joined Clough Engineering in August 1972, remaining with that company for 41 years. His roles included Chief Operating Officer International, Chief Operating Officer Australia, CEO Mining and Infrastructure and Managing Director. In 1998 he completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. In 2003 he also became a Principal with the consulting firm, Evans and Peck.
Around 1979, he married teacher Wendy Elizabeth Callander and they had four children, Liz, Alex, Edward and Sarah. His wife, Wendy, died from cancer in 2007.
From August 2013, after retiring from Clough, Tim worked as a consultant, also holding the positions of Director of RAAFA, Director of Curtin Heritage Living, Director of MACS Australia and Board Member of Marine Views Cottesloe.
In 1972, Tim joined the Institution of Engineers as a Member, later becoming a Fellow.
Tim died on June 2, 2022, aged 74, being survived by his partner Lindsay and his four children.
