Hampden Bridge, Murrumbidgee River at Wagga Wagga

Built in 1895 to a design by Percy Allan, this bridge was the first example of the long span (33.6m) Allan Truss. His innovative design and details established the cost effectiveness of timber bridge construction.

The Hampden Bridge replaced one constructed in 1862 and thereby maintained links between the Riverina and Sydney minimising the diversion of trade to Melbourne via the bridges over the Murray River at Albury and Echuca.
