CAREER
Blake is a senior manager in the electricity industry, currently holding the role of General Manager Design and Engineering for Energy Queensland, leading a team of over 600 staff across the 36 locations across Queensland and responsible for all Lines, Substation and Civil design, engineering and associated systems.
Blake has worked for over 20years in the power industry in places such as ABB in Switzerland and the E. ON Energy Research Centre Germany, but has spent most of his career with Ergon Energy and now Energy Queensland. His background spans all areas of asset management, design and operations, with a particular focus on alternative energy, new technology integration and strategy.
Outside work Blake is still involved with Central Queensland university on a number of board subcommittees and formerly sat on the National Electricity Market Operating Committee. He was named the 2009 Australian Graduate Electrical Power Engineer of the Year and the 2014 CQ University Young Alumni of the Year.
Presidents Highlights 2014
During his term as Queensland Division President for Engineers Australia, Blakes core focus areas were on:
• Increasing the media presence and Government engagement of Engineers Australia on key topics. This was aligned to the organisations focus around being the ‘Voice of the Profession”;
• Advocating Member Value Proposition, for Engineers Australia to have a clear value statement for members;
• Supporting Regional members, given his experience as a regional committee member and chair;
• Promoting the critical role of Associates and Technologist as part of the Engineering profession.
