CAREER
Mike has over 42 years of engineering, management, design and construction experience in both government and the private sector. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering, a Masters of Local Government Management, and a Graduate Diploma of Local Government Engineering from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Most of his career has been spent in local government in New South Wales and Queensland, as well as senior roles with Queensland Main Roads. He currently leads the Infrastructure Services Group within Toowoomba Regional Council, responsible for delivering the group’s operational and capital programs.

Prior to joining Toowoomba Regional Council as General Manager Infrastructure Services Group, in August 2011, Mike was employed with Brisbane City Council in a number of senior roles. He served on the Board of Professional Engineers Queensland from 2012 to 2016 and is also an active member of the Institute of Public Works Engineers Association of Queensland.

Mike was awarded IPWEAQ’s ‘Engineer of the Year’ in 2017 and is currently the Chair of IPWEAQ RPEQ Assessment Board.

Presidents Highlights 2010
With 2010 being the ‘Year of Engineering Leadership’, Mike prioritised the following initiatives:
1. Enhanced support to regional Queensland with on policy and advocacy issues.
2. Developed collaborative engagement/partnerships with other engineering associations.
3. Influenced Federal, State and Local government planning and investment through the release of the Infrastructure Report Card.
4. Established a Migrant Engineer Support Group in Queensland.
5. Positioned our profession as the leaders of future sustainable change in this area.

He also led the development of ‘Engineers Australia Infrastructure Report Card 2010, Queensland’. The report card examined the then current state of Queensland’s infrastructure to determine whether it met both the current and anticipated future needs. Major improvements were required in all infrastructure sectors at that time and hence the implementation of the recommendations to ensure Queensland’s infrastructure meets the current and future requirements of the community and industry are even more relevant and important today, than in 2010.

Recommendations were made to the Queensland and Australian Governments, aimed at ensuring Queensland’s infrastructure would meet the current and future requirements:
Maintenance & Renewals, Rural Imbalance, Recycled Water Opportunities, Growth Allocations, Implementation Tracking, Demand Reduction, Energy Supply Efficiency, Local Govt Needs, Resource Impacts, Private/Public Investment.
