CAREER
Richard Morgan is a graduate of the University of Queensland. He is a structural engineer and held senior positions with a number of engineering companies including over 10 years as Principal Structural Consultant with BHP. His experience includes many assignments both nationally and internationally, throughout Australia, Indonesian, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Chile, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Oman, Philippines, China and Hong Kong.
He is a founding director of Aspec Engineering Pty Ltd, formed in 2003 to provide engineering services to mining companies, heavy industries and ports in the areas of materials handling and infrastructure.
Richard was Past Chairman of the Structural College of Engineers Australia and is currently Chairman of Australian Standards Committee ME43 which is responsible for Australian Standard AS4324 for Materials Handling Machines. He is also Chairman of PIANC Working Group 184 - Design principles for dry bulk marine terminals
Presidents Highlights 2006
During his time as President, there was a water crisis in Queensland and under Richard EAQ formed a working group and worked with EA National office who produced a policy document for water in Australian cities. He was active in undertaking tours of the regional groups accompanied by Division Director Paul Hummel. A key message to the groups was the importance of continuing professional development, CPEng and RPEQ.
