Sydney sewerage & surface water reticulation 1857.

From 1857 to 1920 water supply & sewerage systems caused dramatic improvements in public health.

Significant Typhoid Fever outbreaks in Sydney, 1871 – 1876.

1876 – William Clarke commissioned to advise on water supply and sewerage works.

1857 – 1889 Installation of combined sewerage and stormwater drainage system. Discharges to:
Blackwattle Bay, Darling Harbour & Sydney Cove via Tank Stream, Bennelong Point via Bridge Street & Woolloomoolo Bay.

1877 – Sewerage and Health Board recommended interception of sewage discharged to Sydney Harbour

Bondi Ocean Outfall, 1880-1889.

Southern outfall to Botany Bay sewage farm, 1880-1889.

Hunter District Board constituted 1892.

Annandale Sewer Aqueducts 1896.

Southern and Western Suburbs Ocean Outfall Sewer (SWOOS No.1) completed – diverted flows from Botany Bay 1916.

Significant odour issues within the Sydney metropolitan sewerage system.

Lower Molongolo Water Quality Control Centre completed 1978.

Deepwater ocean outfalls constructed at Bondi, North Head & Malabar Wastewater (Sewage) Treatment Plants, 1984 – 1990.

Northside Storage Tunnel constructed 1998 – 2000.

Rouse Hill Recycled Water Scheme begins delivering recycled 2001 – 2002.

Water Recycling Education Centre opened 2011.
